Beginner's Guide to Playing Pirate Nation Game

Pirate Nation is an RPG blockchain game on Arbitrum developed by Proof of Play studio using Mirroring technology, highly anticipated in the web3 gaming community. Here's what you need to know to get started with Pirate Nation.

What is Pirate Nation?
Pirate Nation is an NFT gaming project in the RPG genre, built and developed by Studio Proof of Play. In this game, you play turn-based, using tactical strategies to select functional cards to defeat opponents.

Pirate Nation draws inspiration from the battles of pirates on the high seas, featuring adventures at sea, treasures, joy, and surprises.

In the game, you will undertake activities such as missions, battles, collection, and crafting to earn money. The Pirate Nation game is built on Mirroring technology, where NFTs operate on Ethereum and the game runs on Layer-2 Arbitrum without any impact.

Proof of Play's team developed their own technology solution called "mirroring" to transition to Arbitrum Nova.

Instead of "bridging" assets through the process of creating new NFT versions on-chain, Pirate Nation has established smart contracts so that users will see the assets they purchase on the Ethereum mainnet automatically appear in their game on Arbitrum Nova.

To get started, you need at least 1 Pirate NFT, currently available for sale on platforms like Opensea, Trove, and Blur.

Gameplay of Pirate Nation

  1. Building Islands

Islands serve as exhibition spaces for the plunder and collectibles gathered from daring pirate adventures.

Upon starting the game, each player receives a Starter Island and will need to hunt for items during gameplay to enhance the beauty of their island.

Starter Island
To obtain resources on these islands, players must complete tasks by participating in sea battles to emerge victorious.

A special feature of the Starter Island allows you to construct underwater structures such as Windmills, with more structures to be revealed in upcoming game updates.

  1. Character System, NFTs in Pirate Nation

To develop your island, players need to engage in sea battles to loot materials from other pirate ships.

To participate in these battles, players must own two types of NFTs:

Pirates: Key to entering the game, you need at least 1 Pirate to play. Pirates are available for purchase on platforms like Opensea, Trove, and Blur.

Each Pirate NFT comes with elemental attributes that counterbalance each other, detailed as follows:

Ships: Pirates also require Ships to unlock additional elements within the game. Without a Ship, gameplay becomes more challenging.

You can craft Ships in-game and use them for various activities.

To craft a Ship, you must complete "Prepare to Disembark I" and "Prepare to Disembark II" missions to receive Skiff Plans.

Each Ship can control one Pirate with different equipment and is categorized into several types:

Pirate's Skiff: A sea-worthy vessel not available for resale.
Pirate's Sloop: Agile but with weak attack capabilities.
Pirate's Galleon: Powerful and robust, essential for any fleet.
Pirate's Frigate: The heart of any fleet, a true powerhouse on the high seas.
Rogue's Galleon: An upgraded Galleon released by Pirate Nation OG, limited to 90 ships.
Different Ship types have varying slots for equipping items, which influence the effectiveness of Cards (cards) during battles.

  1. PVE, PVP
Initially, the game emphasizes encounters between Player and Environment (PvE). As the Pirate Nation beta version evolves, new conflict aspects will be revealed, culminating in Player versus Player (PvP) combat.
  1. Boss Hunts
Formidable bosses like Megalodon, Sea Serpent, and Kraken occasionally appear, requiring players to collaborate to defeat them.

During World Boss events, players can engage in combat with a World Boss every x hours (time subject to event changes) and must carefully choose the target Captain and Ship.

Boss Jormungandr
The player who deals the final blow to a World Boss receives a rare NFT of that boss. Once defeated, a World Boss is permanently removed from the game, with any unbeaten Bosses returning in the future.

  1. Resources and Crafting
Resources earned by completing missions are used to craft items. Once collected, these resources can be crafted into items to unlock better missions.

These resources can also be used to craft decorative items like Totems, Tikis, etc.

Resources are categorized into different tiers:

Tier 1 resources: Wood, Cotton, Iron - easily obtained by completing low-level missions.
Tier 2 resources: Wooden Oar, Cotton Net, Iron Anchor - crafted from Tier 1 resources.
Tier 3 resources: Spyglass, Compass, Mermaid Scale - acquired only through missions requiring Tier 2 resources. Players collect and utilize resources of different levels to progress in the game and unlock new missions and rewards.

  1. In-game Currency in Pirate Nation
Pirate Nation uses two main currencies: Pirate Gold (PGLD) and Marks (MARK). These currencies allow players to level up Pirates and craft items.

Pirate Gold ($PGLD) is an ERC20 token.

Game Mission Board and Rewards
Special note regarding game currency:

Trading Locked Phase

During this phase, players receive $MARK from mission activities.
$MARK is locked in your wallet.
Pirate Gold $PGLD can be exchanged for $MARK for use (but not vice versa).
Trading Unlocked Phase

During this phase, players receive $PGLD from mission activities.
All $MARK in players' wallets automatically converts to $PGLD.
$PGLD can be withdrawn from the wallet.
*To withdraw funds, you must convert from $MARK to Pirate Gold $PGLD and withdraw them from your wallet.

*Currently, the project is in the beta stage, with tokens not yet launched, so it remains in Trading Locked status (withdrawals are not yet possible).

Proof of Play Studio Behind Pirate Nation
Proof of Play, founded by the Co-creator of FarmVille at Zynga, successfully raised $33M in seed funding for the Pirate Nation blockchain game, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Greenoaks Capital.

Amitt Mahajan stated they will use the funds to develop and scale their company's technology, enabling fully blockchain-based games to exist indefinitely.

Emmett Shear, co-founder and former CEO of Twitch, has joined Proof of Play's board of directors. Other participants in the $33M seed round include AngelList co-founder and former CEO Naval Ravikant and former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan.

In a statement, Mahajan mentioned that witnessing Zynga develop FarmVille in 2020 inspired him to explore using blockchain technology to design and deploy "forever games."

Additional Information about Pirate Nation
Pirate Nation was introduced on 10.11.2022 and conducted a free mint of 9,000 Founder’s Pirates. Currently, the game's NFT collection is actively traded on Opensea with significant volume, and recent actions indicate ongoing development through announcements of new changes and player-centric information.

Pirate Nation transitioned from Polygon to Arbitrum for a fresh wave, opting for Arbitrum due to lower gas fees, improved operations, and easier accessibility compared to Polygon.

Conclusion
Pirate Nation is an exciting project with great potential, although it's still early to join and play. I'll keep you updated on the project as the official team announces more details.
