CyberKongz Moves from Polygon to Ronin Chain to Develop NFT Game

CyberKongz is transferring its Play and Kollect NFT game from Polygon to Ronin, with plans for a second game on Ronin in progress.

CyberKongz has evolved into a prominent NFT brand with a total transaction volume of $210 million across their four largest collections. Now, the project's team is moving the NFT game Play and Kollect from Polygon to Ronin, the blockchain created by Sky Mavis, the developer behind Axie Infinity.

The Kongz team is also set to launch Genkai, an NFT collection inspired by a new animated film, on both the Ronin mainnet and Ethereum this week — with plans for a second game soon to follow. A representative from Sky Mavis confirmed that there is no "specific timeline" for the migration from Polygon to Ronin.

"Genkai is the first non-pixel art piece I've created for CyberKongz and will represent our expansion of IP into the Southeast Asian and Japanese markets, with CyberKongz collaborating with Ronin to develop a game featuring Genkai," said a spokesperson.

Since Ronin is currently a private blockchain, minting Genkai will mark the first NFT drop not related to Axie Infinity on this blockchain. This move comes just months after Sky Mavis announced collaborations with four game studios, including The Machines Arena, to build Ronin's gaming ecosystem.

"We believe CyberKongz is one of the largest IPs in Web3," said Kathleen Osgood, Sky Mavis' Business Development Director.

Why Leave Polygon for the Axie Chain?

But why did CyberKongz choose Axie's chain?

"There's always been a community connection between Axie enthusiasts and CyberKongz holders," said Henry the Grape, a Kongz council member.

Henry added: "We truly sprang from the Axie community. So, when the opportunity arose to continue building our ecosystem on Ronin, it was a no-brainer."

The Genkai minting process will involve a total of 20,000 NFTs, with 16,000 minted on the Ethereum mainnet and 4,000 on Ronin. Eventually, Ethereum NFT holders will have the option to migrate their Genkai NFTs to Ronin. The Ethereum public mint will start at 0.25 ETH per Genkai NFT on July 27, 2023.

Furthermore, as part of the collaboration with Sky Mavis, the creators of Axie Infinity will reward all Mystic Axie NFT holders with a complimentary Genkai NFT.

When asked about Kongz's future plans, Henry mentioned that a series of animated films and comics are also part of the vision but refrained from sharing too much.

"One thing we've learned in Web3 is that when you say too much upfront, people tend to lose interest or start judging you based on it," Henry added. "And a lot can change."
