HCMC seeks $757 million from central budget for major projects
Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) has requested the central government allocate VND17.2 trillion ($757.32 million) from 2021 to 2025 for upgrading two canals and constructing an expressway.
The city aims for full state budget coverage for the renovation of Xuyen Tam and Hy Vong canals. Additionally, financial support is sought for clearing the site of the Moc Bai Expressway's section within the city.
In a recent statement to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the city administration emphasized the importance and urgency of these projects. However, financial constraints have hindered implementation, exacerbated by prioritizing budgetary allocations for Covid-19 containment.
HCMC urges the ministry to advocate for additional central budget allocations for these projects until 2025.
The Xuyen Tam Canal, spanning over 8 km through Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts, requires approximately VND9.35 trillion for upgrades including dredging, embankment construction, road development, and sewage system installation.
Meanwhile, the VND1.98 trillion Hy Vong Canal renovation project, covering 1.8 km in Tan Binh District, aims to improve drainage for Tan Son Nhat Airport, enhancing environmental conditions and mitigating flood risks.
