Immortal Game Abandons NFTs Due to Inflation

What is Immortal Game?
Immortal Game is an NFT chess genre game where players own NFTs associated with chess pieces called Immortals.

Each Immortal is linked to optional tasks with various styles. By completing tasks and winning, your ranking on the leaderboard increases, and consequently, the profits you receive are also greater.

Notably, this is a Free-to-play NFT game, allowing you to start playing without significant barriers.

Immortal Game Abandons NFTs in-game
In a recent development, the developers of Immortal Game posted on the project's Discord announcing their decision to no longer use NFTs in their game due to concerns about fraud. You can read the specific announcement here.

Immortal Game was developed on the Ethereum blockchain using the Immutable X protocol, and starting from December 11, 2023, the game will no longer use the Checkmate token ($CMT) and will remove the NFT marketplace systems.

Additionally, Immortal Game will remove the details of NFTs from its official website and cease awarding rewards to top-ranked players.

Despite successfully raising $12 million last year from major players like TCG Crypto and Kraken Ventures, Immortal has decided to withdraw from this market, resulting in a sharp decline in the game's $CMT token recently.

Luxo, the developer of Immortal Game, stated, "Initially, our team aimed to create a game that benefits players and fosters a growing community. However, unforeseen events occurred. Due to the game's free-to-play nature, the player community grew significantly, causing uncontrollable inflation in the token reward distribution. Therefore, we made the decision to remove token and NFT features from the game."

Inflation (or cheating) is a common issue in games, both in web2 and web3, due to the allure of easily earned rewards. Given that anyone can participate, Immortal's decision aligns with a broader vision.

Other web3 games should also reconsider their core elements to avoid following in Immortal's footsteps.
