Krafton Unveils NFT Game Overdare Integrated with AI Tools

Overdare, a new NFT game aiming to deliver a Roblox-like gaming experience within an open-world metaverse, is being built on the Settlus blockchain.

Krafton, the renowned South Korean game studio famous for producing the popular battle royale shooter PUBG, has announced their upcoming NFT metaverse project named Overdare, providing a first glimpse into a platform focused on creativity.

In a statement, Krafton revealed: Previously known as Project Migaloo, Overdare will undergo testing in December and launch fully between January and July 2024. The company has developed its own blockchain, Settlus, specifically for the game.

Overdare appears to be a mobile game platform akin to Roblox, powered by Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5. It will offer creators synthetic AI tools to craft their own shooter games, RPGs, and action-adventure games. The social game platform will also allow users to customize avatars and interact with each other.

The initial trailer hints at an open-world platform enabling users to build games and environments using AI tools, participate in virtual concerts, customize their avatars, and more.

Earlier this year, Krafton announced the project as a joint venture with Naver Z, an augmented reality (AR) technology company. Krafton retains 85% ownership of the project, with Naver Z holding the remaining 15%.

Overdare plans to implement a "create-to-earn" gaming economy, where players can buy and sell digital assets in-game as NFTs. According to a statement, the game will utilize NFTs for transparent and secure cryptocurrency transactions.

Krafton and Naver Z are utilizing the Settlus blockchain for Overdare's economy, which will allow gamers to earn via Coinbase and Circle's USDC stablecoin. Settlus will use Cosmos for USDC payments.

The Settlus Twitter account describes it as a blockchain created by Krafton, calling it "the future of the creator economy."

In a Medium blog post, Settlus from Krafton mentioned plans to introduce an "NFT licensing system," although specifics were not disclosed. They also mentioned efforts to address underlying issues with Overdare's planned NFT economy, such as offering optional rather than mandatory NFTs, resolving scarcity or lack of items, and addressing token price volatility issues that could lead to "poor experiences" for gamers and creators alike.
