Saltwater Games Secures Funding from Animoca Brands for XR Token
Saltwater Games, a UK-based web3 and XR gaming company, has announced new funding from Animoca Brands. The investment, raised through a seed SAFT (Simple Agreement for Future Tokens) round, is earmarked for the development and integration of Saltwater’s upcoming XR token. The precise amount of the funding has not been disclosed.
What is Saltwater Games?
Saltwater Games operates three specialized studios: Nexus Labs, Maze Theory, and Saltwater Labs. Nexus Labs focuses on the development and publishing of web3 games, Maze Theory specializes in VR and spatial gaming, and Saltwater Labs is dedicated to emerging technologies in web3 and AI.
Previously, Saltwater Labs received a grant from the Arbitrum Foundation, enabling the creation of XR One, an Arbitrum Orbit L3 chain. XR One is designed to support the XR token across various web3 games, marketplaces, AI tools, and user-generated content (UGC) platforms.
Role of Animoca Brands and Mocaverse
The recent funding from Animoca Brands aims to facilitate the integration of XR One with Animoca’s membership network, Mocaverse. This integration will offer cross-community benefits and enhance various live-ops gaming experiences.
Earlier in February 2024, Saltwater Games announced a $5.5 million seed round following the acquisition of game development studios Maze Theory, Nexus Labs, and Quantum Interactive. Saltwater’s current game portfolio includes titles such as Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, Celeros, The Infinite Inside, and Resurgence.
