Ubisoft Partners with Immutable to Launch New NFT Game Project

Game publisher Ubisoft and Immutable X are currently developing a new blockchain-based NFT game project aimed at offering "digital ownership rights."

Here are some key details from the development roadmap:

Ubisoft, known for games like Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six Siege, is expanding further into the NFT gaming sector with plans to create a "Web3 gaming experience" fully integrated with cryptocurrency infrastructure in collaboration with Immutable X.

Both Ubisoft and Immutable X have announced their joint efforts to build "a new NFT game experience unlocking the full potential of Web3."

Immutable, the company behind the Immutable X layer-2 blockchain ecosystem, where games like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians integrate NFTs, will provide comprehensive integration support for game developers to seamlessly incorporate cryptocurrency elements into their projects.

Nicolas Pouard, Ubisoft's Strategic Innovation Lab Deputy Director and blockchain initiatives lead, stated in a release, "We are excited to collaborate with them and look forward to delivering a flexible, feature-rich gaming experience that allows players to focus on the joy of gaming and their experiences."

James Ferguson, CEO and co-founder of Immutable, added in a statement that the partnership aims to provide "digital ownership rights" to players through this collaboration. He further noted, "We plan to leverage our entire ecosystem to ensure the success of the project and Ubisoft's involvement."

Both parties believe this collaboration will introduce a highly anticipated gaming experience that players will love.

The announcement provides some insights into the ongoing development. The project could potentially be a new blockchain NFT game integrating Immutable's ecosystem, with Ubisoft as the developer, or it might involve a "collect to earn" type of experience where gameplay interfaces simplify the process of earning NFTs.

When asked for more detailed information about the project, a representative from Immutable told Decrypt that "additional details" would be shared at a future date.

This isn't Ubisoft's first venture into the NFT and NFT gaming market. Previously, Ubisoft released NFTs inspired by its Rabbids game on platforms like The Sandbox and Reddit. They also launched free Tezos NFTs for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint in 2021. However, Ubisoft ended support for Ghost Recon NFTs in April 2022 and announced plans to integrate this technology into other future games.

In July 2023, Ubisoft announced the development of a new tactical RPG game project titled Champions Tactics on the Oasys blockchain, marking their entry into the Cronos blockchain ecosystem as a new player.
