Immutable and Polygon Launch $100M Inevitable Games Fund

The Inevitable Games Fund, led by King River Capital with support from Immutable and Polygon Labs, will invest in NFT games across multiple platforms.

Immutable and Polygon Labs have announced today that they have partnered with King River Capital to launch a $100 million blockchain gaming fund named The Inevitable Games Fund.

This collaboration has secured strong commitments from Abu Dhabi's Alpha Wave Ventures, with additional investments from the cryptocurrency gaming community Merit Circle, alongside Immutable co-founders James and Robbie Ferguson, and Polygon Labs co-founder Sandeep Nailwal.

According to a press release, Immutable and King River Capital will play a primary role in the fund, with Polygon Labs providing key sourcing and industry expertise.

The Inevitable Games Fund has already invested in seven projects, with four of them revealed on Tuesday: the monster combat game Pixelmon, the mech shooter MetalCore, Immutable's mobile RPG Guild of Guardians, and the battle royale shooter My Pet Hooligan.

All projects except My Pet Hooligan are being built on Immutable's Ethereum-based open network, while My Pet Hooligan utilizes Polygon. However, while initial announcements focused heavily on stablecoin-enabled games from the primary partners, the press release hints that the fund will invest in games across "Web3 infrastructure... irrespective of platform."

Zeb Rice, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of King River Capital, commented, "Spending on digital games now exceeds global revenues from film, online television, and the music industry combined, and is ripe for a major technological shift." "We believe a similar shift is just beginning with Web3 technology. The fund offers investors a unique opportunity to access the best Web3 gaming projects globally."

This is not the first collaboration between Immutable and Polygon. Last year, the companies worked together to create the Immutable zkEVM scaling solution based on Polygon's zkEVM technology.
