Zynga, a Leading Game Company, Launches Sugartown on Ethereum Blockchain

Zynga, a prominent mobile game publisher and developer under the ownership of Take-Two Interactive Software, has unveiled its first Web3 platform and game called Sugartown.

With this release, Zynga becomes the first major mobile game developer to create a Web3 game from scratch. Sugartown is built on the Ethereum network, offering players a role-playing environment where they can earn rewards.

About Sugartown

Sugartown's storyline revolves around three farm animals accidentally opening a portal to Sugartown from another dimension, allowing special creatures called Ora's to enter the city. These Ora's use their creativity to transform Sugartown into a vibrant place full of joy and games.

In the game, players use their ERC-721 tokenized Oras as proof of ownership to gain access to Sugartown. By staking Oras, players can earn energy, which they can then use to play Sugartown games and earn $Sugar - the in-game currency used to unlock exciting rewards.

"We are thrilled to launch Sugartown as Zynga's first Web3 game and the first Web3 game with an original IP from a major mobile game developer," said Matt Wolf, Zynga's VP of Web3.

Zynga has always been at the forefront of innovation, and with Sugartown, their ambition is to empower players through a sustainable Web3 platform filled with engaging and long-lasting games. Creating Sugartown aims to expand its scale over time and build a community of passionate players and holders. Let's see if this project can make waves in comparison to other blockchain game projects.

Players will have the opportunity to mint their own Oras by the end of this year. Owning an Ora will be a requirement to access free minigames within Sugartown. As a Web3 game, Sugartown will continue to evolve over time, serving Zynga's community of holders and players.

About Zynga

Founded in 2007, Zynga first made waves in the gaming industry with widely popular titles such as FarmVille and Words With Friends in 2009.

The publisher first revealed plans to create blockchain-based games in late 2021 but has shared few details about these efforts since early 2022. Last year, Grand Theft Auto's publisher, Take-Two Interactive, acquired Zynga for $12.7 billion, signaling collaborative plans on blockchain games in the future.
